Palm announced “Real reviewer” program just a few weeks ago, for all the social media sites out there. They hope to gain some widespread “organic” credibility troughout the web with it. It is the first time that Palm has opened tis kind of activities to non professionals. it has allways been out there for pro journalists but this time they are counting on bloggers, online journalists and reviewers to get the word on the Pre out.
And we must admit that this tactic is just brilliant, if you are a twitter/friendfeed/facebook user with a large flock of followers (let`s say 5000+) you are an ideal candidate for the “organic reviewer” position. So if you get lucky you`ll get one Palm pre for 6 months to dissect and describe from every existing angle.

So the main story here is a rumor that “real reviewer” program is launching this week, and all who applied and entered will be recieving their copy by the middle of the week. So prepare for buzz whirlpool of Palm pre sightings and news during the upcoming weeks. And it was about time.

It seems that Palm has succesfully mimicked the Apple strategy for initial release of the iPhone. The idea is to announce and heavily demo and show off the device’s capabilities months before the actual launch. Hence the quantity of videos and clips around the web teasing and building up the buzz. That will create the perfect climate for a spectacular launch, hopefully comparable to the one iPhone had.

As you can see the Synergy is working flawlessly and the Calendar function in the new Palm Pre will be as beautiful as it is useful.

World Mobile Conference in Barcelona has kicked off this morning, and there is already a few interesting stories for Palm lovers. First of all we bring you a few shots from the Palm’s booth @ MWC and later on there will be some more Palm Pre sweetness. So sit back, relax, look at the pictures and imagine you are in Barcelona hanging out with all the cool people from the mobile world. We bring you another edition of Palm Pre around the web, this one is a treat. Mobile Crunch got their hands on Palm Pre at CES and compared it with 3G iPhone. The pictures are pretty interesting and the article reveals a lot, I suggest you read it.

During our demonstration, a few things went on the fritz: there was a bit of lag, certain menus wouldn’t open no matter how many times they were poked. We did some digging around the web to show you why we think Palm Pre is going to be a big deal in the mobile industry, first truly significant device after the iPhone that can and will shift and bend the rules and set some new standards. I have a feeling that in the whole Palm Pre frenzy one important possibly crucial thing is a bit out of the spotlight. I’m talking about the Touchstone wireless charger that will be sold as an accessory. To get one thing straight, inductive charging is not anything new or cutting edge, it has been here since the dawn of electrical age and was patented in a similar form by Nikola Tesla himself. So this technology has been here for quite a while but other that powering toothbrushes, household appliances we haven’t seen it in the mainstream especially not by well recognized companies.

The best way to explain wireless charging is to quote Wikipedia

Wireless energy transfer or wireless power transmission (also known as the Tesla Effect) is the process that takes place in any system where electrical energy is transmitted from a power source to an electrical load, without interconnecting wires in an electrical grid. Wireless transmission is ideal in cases where instantaneous or continuous energy transfer is needed, but interconnecting wires are inconvenient, hazardous, or impossible.

So the Touchstone is in essence a dock, you plug it in a wall socket and place your Palm Pre on it, and it will charge. In order to stay in place there are several strong magnets underneath the inductive surface that will lock Pre in the appropriate charging position.

The advantages of a wireless charger I don’t even need to explain. If Pre starts ringing while charging simply pick it u and answer the call once you are done, just put it back where it was, no connecting and disconnecting the connector, no additional wires that are always in the way.

The best thing is you can use your Palm Pre while charging on the Touchstone, surf, text, browse pictures.
The whole thing (and the idea) sounds pretty cool and I think it will be a huge hit, especially if they price it right. The price and the availability are still unknown but there are some speculations that the Touchstone will cost somewhere from 60-90$. It should be available at the same tame as Palm Pre (May-June)
